Metro Aviation is proud to be a part of the IU Health LifeLine Critical Care Transport family, serving as its operator. Its Director, Steve Johnson, was recently featured in the Business section of Indy Star:

Becoming a paramedic was supposed to help Steven Johnson pay the bills during college. Then came the opportunity to join Southwest Air Ambulance, a Las Cruces, N.M.-based startup air medical transport company. Southwest transported high-risk obstetrics patients to Albuquerque, N.M. That company was later purchased by Dallas-based Omni Flight Helicopters, a large air medical operator.

In 2010, he joined IU Health as director of LifeLine Critical Care Transport. He oversees LifeLine’s fleet of six helicopters, seven Mobile Intensive Care Units (highly equipped ambulances) and a fixed-wing aircraft. More than 180 employees report to Johnson. He also is the interim director of patient access, which has about 400 employees. As the director of business development for Omni Flight, one of Johnsons’ clients was IU Health.
