MARCH 11, 2026

Metro Aviation continues development of its Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the Airbus H160, marking another step forward in bringing next-generation air medical capabilities to operators around the world. The Memorial Hermann H160 currently on display at the Airbus booth serves as the primary conforming aircraft for Metro Aviation’s comprehensive STC program, with formal issuance anticipated in June 2026.

The aircraft also highlights the strong partnership between Metro Aviation and Airbus Helicopters in bringing the H160 EMS interior to market. Through close collaboration between the two organizations throughout the development process, the teams have worked together to ensure the H160 platform is optimized for the unique demands of air medical operations.

While the aircraft on display is configured specifically for the U.S. air medical market, it represents the foundation of a highly adaptable platform designed to support a wide range of operational needs. Metro Aviation is actively engaged in discussions with both domestic and international operators regarding the H160’s potential for advanced air ambulance services.

A second H160 airframe for a separate customer is currently undergoing completion at Metro Aviation and will be configured similarly to the display aircraft. The H160 platform offers significant advantages for air medical providers, enabling them to reach a larger service area and transport high-acuity patients—including specialized pediatric and neonatal cases—over longer distances with increased speed and efficiency.

Metro Aviation recognizes that while integrated onboard systems are standard in many U.S. programs, numerous international operators rely on “carry-on” medical equipment to support their clinical missions. While the current H160 interior design features traditional integrated systems such as liquid oxygen (LOX) and built-in medical inverters, Metro is also evaluating the development of a more flexible carry-on equipment configuration.

This adaptable approach will allow operators worldwide to utilize the H160’s advanced airframe while maintaining the equipment configurations that best support their operational models, all while meeting Metro Aviation’s rigorous standards for airworthiness, safety, and functionality.

Following final STC approval, Metro Aviation plans to develop and offer a comprehensive H160 interior installation kit. This will enable qualified completion facilities and operators worldwide to install the Metro-designed interior, expanding access to next-generation air medical capability across the global H160 fleet.

Metro Aviation will be at VERTICON in Atlanta at Booth #B308.
