Metro Aviation recently reached a major milestone for its operations division. The air medical operator received certification from the Commercial Airlift Review Board (CARB) to operate as an approved air carrier for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).
The recently completed initial audit and future continuing audits are conducted by the DOD Commercial Airlift Division (CAD). These audits include an extensive examination of all areas of the company, including safety, flight operations, maintenance, and quality controls.
“We are proud to carry this certification and excited for what this means for our operations customers across the country,” said Metro Director of Operations Jim Arthur. “CARB certification allows us to work in partnership with our customers and the DOD to facilitate the transport of military personnel during medical emergencies.”
Metro is a Part 135 Air Carrier and follows a traditional air medical business model, operating for several hospital programs across the U.S. The commitment and resources required to obtain CARB certification are significant and this latest achievement adds to a growing list of Metro’s milestones over the past few years. Metro was one of the first to reach Level IV of the FAA’s SMS Pilot Project for Part 135, and the first to reach Level IV for Part 145.
