The Austin Police Department Air Support Unit recently added a third helicopter to its fleet. Metro Aviation completed the new Eurocopter AS350 B3e at its comprehensive completion facility in Shreveport, Louisiana.

“We had a great collaboration with Metro Aviation completing our most recent helicopter purchase and we are very happy with the result,” said Sergeant Ben Dranguet with the Austin Police Department Air Support Unit.

The high performance, single engine aircraft is tactically outfitted with a law enforcement configuration to include an infrared thermal imaging system, gyro-stabilized binoculars, multiple channel police radio and Spectrolab SX-16 Nightsun. The new Air One will also be used to fight fires with a Bambi Bucket purchased with the aircraft.

“This project is the culmination of Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo’s vision to bring front-line, multi-mission, public safety aircraft to central Texas providing direct support to the Austin Police Department, the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS,” said Sgt. Dranguet.

Metro Aviation specializes in completions for Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services and Corporate helicopters.
